Warhol was a painter, printmaker, and filmmaker who was a leading figure in the visual art movement known as American Pop Art. Warhol began to make paintings of iconic American products such as Coca-Cola bottles, Campbell's Soup Cans as well as paintings of celebrities such as Marilyn Monroe, Elvis Presley and Elizabeth Taylor. He founded "The Factory", during these years, and gathered around himself a wide range of artists, writers, musicians, and underground celebrities. He began producing silkscreen prints. His work became popular and controversial, however to this day, he is undisputedly one of the most recognized American artists to date.
