Kevin Redstar
Born: 1943, Crow Indian Reservation, Southwestern Montana
A Native American Artist who's work mainly consist of American Indian figurative portraiture. In 1962, he was chosen to attend the new Institute of American Indian Art in Santa Fe where he studied until 1965. He was then awarded a scholarship to the San Francisco Art Institute. He completed his formal education at Montana State University and Eastern Montana College. In 1975 he was invited back to the Institute of American Indian Art as an Artist-in-Residence. In 1995, he was selected as a Copenhaver Scholar-in-Residence at Roanoke College in Salem, Virginia. Later that year he participated in the cultural exchange with the Russian Academy of Art. In May, 1997 Kevin Redstar received an Honorary Doctorate Degree from the Rocky Mountain College, Billings, Montana. Kevin is passionate about authenticity in his portraits of Crow warriors and dancers. He meticulously researches the history and costumes of his Crow tribe.
