Born in France December 2, 1859 Died March 29, 1891
Seurat contributed to French painting in the 1880's in the wake of impressionism by introducing a systematic and scientific technique known as pointillism or divisionism. The technique of pointillism Seurat employed was later adopted by a group of his followers, the neoimpressionists, and was extensively used in early 20th-century art.
