Pierre Marie Brisson is a well- known French contemporary artist. Brisson’s early work resembles stained glass, with dark black outlines breaking up the image, and is similar to the work of Georges Roualt. Brisson’s imagery, both playful and primitive, recalls that of Paul Klee, Pierre Courtin, Karel Appel and Pierre Alechinsky. Often compared to cave drawings, the figures and texture of Brisson’s work is created by cutting and scratching the surface of his layered canvases. While Brisson is a representational painter, taking elements from everyday life, his compositions border on abstraction. Brisson’s work is exhibited throughout Europe, Canada and the United States.
