Rauschenberg was a painter, sculptor, photographer and master printmaker. He was considered to be both and Abstract Expressionist and an American Pop Artist. His paintings incorporated not only found objects but found images as well--photographs transferred to the canvas by means of the silkscreen process. Rauschenberg's most significant bodies of work are considered to be his combines where he combined found objects, collage and painting into his assemblages.
